Homemade Soda Benefits + Recipe

We’ve all heard it before, the sodas we’ve loved since childhood can cause numerous negative health effects. But did you know it’s super easy to make a healthier soda at home?

Sodas are typically full of added refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and empty calories. They’re just liquid sugar!

At Nature’s Flavors, we specialize in crafting natural and organic flavoring. So, we’re going to show you how to make a healthier version of this nostalgic beverage. Let’s go over the 3 perks to making your own homemade soda!

Our Homemade Strawberry Soda is a sweet and refreshing summer treat.

All the Taste, None of the Artificial

When you craft some delicious homemade soda, you get to decide what kind of sugar goes in and how much. Organic cane sugar is unrefined, obtained from sugar cane, and it may be a better option for you than table sugar.

Flavor to Your Liking

Typically when you buy a pack of soda, it’s just one flavor. But when you make your own soda, the flavor can depend on your imagination! But if you want a classic cola, Nature’s Flavors Organic Cola Syrup is made with organic cane sugar and nothing artificial!

How about a strawberry lime-carbonated drink? Simply combine a strawberry and lime syrup into carbonated water! The only limit is how many flavored syrups you have! And at Nature’s Flavors, we have nearly 100 Flavored Organic Syrups

Or, add a shot of your choice of vodka, for a fizzy cocktail!

Environmental Friendly

Every time you decide to make your own beverages and food, you are making a sustainable choice! Fast food restaurants require so many disposable products that aren’t necessary if you were eating at home or bring your own lunch.

Also, homemade sodas require significantly less water to produce compared to mass production. Plus, without the need for aluminum cans, there will be less waste in our landfills.

Research shows, “Beverage containers typically comprise 40% to 60% of roadside litter in non-deposit states”

So, homemade soda isn’t just a better alternative for your health, but the health of our planet too!

Sum it All Up

Choosing to make your own flavorful fizzy drink is beneficial for you and your family’s health. You get to decide the flavors and the ingredients to use. Plus, it’s better for the environment!

Coffee & Syrup

Although you may have purchased our Snow Cone Bundle originally for your kids, below are some ways adults can enjoy them beyond shaved ice!

Let’s start with coffee, our personal favorite.

We recommend starting with ½ oz of Flavor Syrup per 1 cup of coffee. Of course, everyone’s taste preferences are different. Some of us like our coffee bold, others like it on the sweeter side. So, feel free to add more flavoring to your liking!

These are the flavors we recommend for your morning brew,

Cocktails

So, you find yourself on Friday evening longing for a delicious cocktail to wash down the week. You don’t have any bar syrups but you do have our Snow Cone Bundle! This means you have the flavors Watermelon and Lemon Lime! Woo-hoo

Start off with ½ oz of Flavor Syrup per 1 ½ oz of either tequila, vodka, or rum. As mentioned before, you can always add more to your liking. It’s easy when you’re your own bartender.

Here’s the flavors we recommend for cocktails:

We can’t just recommend our products without a delicious summer cocktail recipe! So, here’s our take on a Watermelon Chile Margarita:

  • 1 ½ oz of preferred tequila
  • ½ oz of Nature’s Flavors Organic Watermelon Snow Cone Syrup
  • A squeeze of lime
  • 1 tsp sea salt, lemon, chili powder
  • Rim with sea, salt, lemon, chili powder
  • Give it a good shake with some ice.

Snow Cones, Lemonades, & Carbonated Water

We starting with 1tbsp of syrup per 8oz of lemonade.

If you’d like, you can bring the kids back for these two! We even have a video posted on our Instagram demonstrating how to flavor your lemonades with us!

You can use the same measurements for the lemonades as the cocktail ratio. And remember, you can always add more to your liking.

By using our Snow Cone Syrup and carbonated water, you can make your own healthier version of a soda! They’re made with Organic Cane Sugar and never contain any artificial colors or ingredients! Read this blog post to learn about eliminating food dyes and High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) for your lifestyle.

To flavor your carbonated water, use about 1 tbsp per 8oz of carbonated water. Give it a good stir but don’t go too crazy.

Below are some of our recommended flavors for lemonades and carbonated water:

With our various Cola Flavored products, you can still get the same rich sweet cola taste without the HFCS. It’s a win-win!

Ice Cream & Milkshakes

Drizzle this syrup over strawberry ice cream to elevate your dessert.

Now, is it really summer if you didn’t enjoy some ice cream? Of course it isn’t!

To use our snow cone flavorings, we recommend using a vanilla ice cream for a neutral base. You can either pour 1 tablespoon over your ice cream, or swirl it into your milkshakes! Easily make a strawberry and vanilla milkshake by using our Natural or Organic Strawberry Snow Cone Syrup. Or, make a delicious root beer float milkshake with our Natural or Organic Root Beer Snow Cone Syrup!

What In the World Is Gluten Free?

We currently live in a word where labels constantly surround us with all of these weird terms on them. Vegan, gluten free, kosher, all-natural, sugar free, non-GMO, grass-fed… and the list goes on and on. As a matter of fact, you may be thinking to yourself, what do all of these terms mean? Well today, we’re going to be talking about what in the world gluten free is.

Why Does Gluten Free Exist?

This way of eating helps people with certain health conditions. For example, people with Celiac disease eat gluten free because it is harmful to their GI tract. Other reasons for a gluten free diet include having a gluten intolerance or sensitivity. In this case, people usually experience bloating, cramping, and even nausea from consuming gluten. Moreover, gluten consumption has also been linked to depression and weight gain.

Are There Any Benefits of Going GF?

Ultimately, people with Celiac disease, intolerances, or sensitivities will benefit the most from a no gluten diet. With this in mind, it’s important to remember that not everyone will benefit from avoiding gluten. Deciding to go on this diet means avoiding large food groups that contain nutrients we need on a daily basis. To clarify, vital nutrients such as wheat and grains contain calcium, iron, folate, and many others that you would be missing out on when gluten free.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to deciding to go gluten free, the best thing to ask yourself is if you really need it. There are both benefits and drawbacks so all you can really do is decide what is the best option for you and your body. It’s important to keep in mind these key points:

  • What your current gut health is
  • If you have any vitamin deficiencies
  • If you find yourself having a negative reaction when consuming gluten
  • Have you talked to your doctor
