All these things are truly lifesavers in the kitchen and we’re going to talk about another one! Introducing, Citric Acid Powder and all its nifty features!

Sour… Salt?

Discovered in 1917, citric acid powder actually comes from mold. And yes, you heard that correctly. Nevertheless, the mold by the name of “Aspergillus niger” is what creates this magical powder. Uniquely, the mold metabolizes sucrose or glucose which proves to be more efficient than extracting directly from citrus fruits. Citric acid powder is actually more commonly referred to as sour salt because of its appearance and taste. Not to mention the candy-like appearance.

What Can I Use Citrus Acid Powder For?

As mentioned earlier, citric acid powder is versatile in your kitchen for your homemade recipes. It can enhance flavors, preserve various foods, and even ripen them! The reason why citric acid powder is essential to preserving food is that it is able to prevent bacteria from growing. Therefore, citric acid powder is a great addition to jams, jellies, and other canned products. It is also useful in the cheese-making process because it speeds it up. Fun fact, most companies all over the globe use citric acid powder as a flavor enhancer in beverages.
