Making colored sugar for cotton candy using natural ingredients is a simple process. However, coloring cotton candy will almost always result in a pastel color since this treat is 98% air.
Natural food coloring powders are practical since they are a dry based-product, just like sugar. Because of their similar bases, evenly distributing the coloring powder to the sugar is an easy process.

DIY Colored Sugar for Cotton Candy

- 1 Medium mixing bowl
- Measuring Spoons
- Place the floss sugar and food coloring powder in a large mixing bowl. Whisk the two dry ingredients together until the color is evenly distributed. This can take a couple of minutes.
- Do not blend. Blending or using an electric whisk will turn the sugar into powdered sugar.
- Once the color is evenly distributed, add 1 tbsp into the middle of the machine. Be sure to follow the machine's instructions for proper use.
