Do you suspect that you have a parasite living inside of you? Maybe you’re nauseous all the time, have constant diarrhea, or can’t seem to get rid of a headache. Here at Nature’s Flavors, we are all about being natural, but sometimes natural remedies can do more harm than good.
The good news is that all of those symptoms are non-specific, meaning that they might be pointing to a less serious situation or illness. However, you may have been scrolling through TikTok one day and come across someone else with these same symptoms, and they tell you that it’s…. parasites! 🤢
While they may be offering up some great advice on how to get rid of them, such as eating some papaya seeds, don’t scare yourself too much. In fact, it is actually highly unlikely for you to actually have a parasitic infection. A point often overlooked when it comes to social media is that you should never self-diagnose. If you ever think something is wrong, your best bet is to give your doctor a visit. Papaya seeds are natural, however, these types of infections should only be treated with anti-worm medication.
Parasites
Now that we’ve covered what not to do, let’s talk about those parasites and papaya seeds! Parasites are little organisms that live on or inside a host organism. If you ever do develop a parasitic infection, you would be considered the host. Parasites eat any glucose you consume, which is a part of most diets. The most common, human parasites are protozoa, giardia, helminths, and tapeworms. They may sound super scary, but they are far more common in tropical countries than they are in the U.S.
Papaya
Now let talk a little bit about those papaya seeds. Papaya in general is absolutely packed with nutrients, including Vitamin A and C, as well as fiber and healthy fats. This makes papaya great for helping with digestive disorders, but it should not be depended on. In fact, consuming too many papaya seeds at one time can increase nausea, headaches, and diarrhea, which doesn’t help you out at all!
The Bottom Line
All in all, you have to be very careful with what you believe on social media. We all have stumbled upon helpful tips through our use of social media, but that doesn’t mean you should believe everything you see. Natural and holistic healing is one of the things we do best here over at Nature’s Flavors, but we highly encourage researching everything before trying it.
